For some strange reason, I avoided watching this film at any cost. I really didn’t feel as if it was a movie that I would enjoy, which is completely ridiculous considering any kind of epic romance is my kind of movie! Moulin
Rouge! tells the story of Christian, a writer who moves to Paris to follow the bohemian revolution. One night he attends the Moulin Rouge, only to fall completely tragically in love with Satine, the biggest star of the club. However, she is also the object of the wealthy Duke’s affections as well. The Duke agrees to finance a play put on by Christian at the Moulin Rouge, under the impression that Satine loves him back. During the production, Satine and Christian share a secret love affair and attempt to keep their relationship going. As the movie progresses, we learn that Satine has a deadly secret.
The aspect of this film that is undoubtedly the best, is the music. Taking a wide range of modern day music, and combining them in unconventional ways is thrilling. Some of the best love songs ever written are united to create beautiful and overwhelmingly touching music. No doubt the songs will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. The cinematography is just spectacular. Not to mention the opening sequence which, *FUN FACT* at the time the film was made, was the longest digitally made sequence ever. The passionate love story is just one more positive of about a million for the film. Kleenex may be necessary, I’m warning you!
