The Red Star stadium is known by the name Marakana. The name Marakana was given after the Brazilian stadium. The stadium is used for all sorts of activities but mostly for soccer games and where all home games are held for Red Star Belgrade. The capacity of the seated seats is 54,000. The stadium was renovated during 1960-1963. The new stadium opened September 1, 1963. The day of the opening they had 55,000 fans come to watch the game. It was incredible. Later, they realized they need to make a higher capacity for spectators because 54,000 was not enough. When they entirely finished the new stadium the capacity was 110,000 spectators. Everyone is Serbia talks about the first goal that was scored in the new stadium. It was by Trifun Mihajlovic. April 1975, during the semi final game against the Hungarians is when the most amount of people came to watch. The stadium was filled till the last spot.

First Visitor

The first visitor to enter the new stadium in Belgrade was Laza Petrovic. He was a dedicated fan that really wanted to make sure he had a good seat for the game. He arrived at the stadium at 6 a.m, and just sat in the stand, eating and waiting until the game started. That is what I call a true FAN.
