On March 4, 1945, Red star was formed. It was first developed to be a Youth Physical Center with different sports. During World War II was when the center was developed by a group of young people. Zoran Zujovic and Slobodan Cosic were the ones to come up with the name Red Star. The sports specialized in the club were basketball, football, volleyball and rowing. There was another section that was for youth that enjoyed playing chess. The first soccer game that was played was against Knoj and Red Star won 3:2. Red Star is the leader of all Serbian teams having 25 national championship trophies. The Red Star team even managed to win three championships in a row. |
Red Star Belgrade is the only club in Serbia that has won a UEFA competition. The team in 1991 won the European Cup that was held in Bari, Italy. In the year 1991, it was a good team because not only did they win the UEFA but also they won the Intercontinental Cup that was held in Tokyo, Japan. Red Star made it to European Super Cup finals, but sadly lost to Manchester United. |
