Belgrade, (Beograd in Serbian) is the capital city of Serbia. I've visited Belgrade numerous times; I have to say that there is never a dull moment in Belgrade. Belgrade is known for its two international waterways, the Sava river and Danube river. Belgrade is Serbia's largest city, with about 1,630,000 people living there. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe. I've travelled through Belgrade and there are many things to see, beautiful churches and rivers. The night life in Belgrade is incomparable to anywhere I have ever been. There are clubs that are on the river, they are called splavovi in Serbian. The city was discovered by the Greeks and named it White City, that is where Beograd name comes from. Beo- meaning: White and Grad- meaning: City. Walking down the roads of Belgrade is something you have never witnessed here in Canada. In my opinion, Canada life is different than the life back in Serbia. I was born in Serbia, but came to Canada at a young age; surprisingly I do remember a lot that happened in Serbia. In 2005, when I first when back to visit, is when I realized that is where my life should continue after graduation. I have never witnessed so many people walking at night. I have never seen such a welcoming place before. The people look happy with whatever they have, rather look upon what you can afford. Belgrade has two state universities and a couple of private school for higher education. Education in Serbia is harder than it is here. When I was in grade one, that is when we had to know our times table and long division, I came to Canada and learnt that in grade three. I must say grade three math was a piece of cake for me. Since Belgrade is the countries best developed city (economically) Red Star Belgrade was created and started in this beautiful city. I must say, while visiting, the rivalry in Belgrade between Red Star and Partizan. It has become so competitive that if wearing the opposing shirt, people will say things to you in regards to the team.
